Reblogging in case there is anyone out there who reads my blog and still respects/supports PETA. I remember when I first started Feminish a little over a year ago, I wrote a commentary about the org, and to my surprise, a lot of folks had no idea they were waist deep in this kinda bullshit. (Good thing to bookmark for when folks ask for evidence later.)

PETA gives vegetarians and vegans a bad image. As a vegetarian myself I have distant myself from them after I went through my “radical, humans are evil, I will make everyone feel horrible” phase in middle/high school. Not only did I discover how two-faced & money hungry PETA is but I began to realize that more people will listen to you when you aren’t a crazy, judgmental asshole. Most of my friends and family started thinking about animal rights and becoming aware of where their food came from because they saw me living by my principles without shoving it down someone’s throat. Hell, my boyfriend has meat in our refrigerator right now! But he also doesn’t kill bugs anymore when he sees them and doesn’t support companies that are known to commit animal cruelty. I don’t expect him to ever become a vegetarian. I never even mention it to him. Because he’s a good man who was raised in a meat eating culture that’s filled with other good men and women. I don’t want to convince any of them into giving up meat. That’s an awful conversation. My only goal is to convince the government and companies to treat the animals with respect and care before they are slaughtered. We’ve been eating animals forever, that’s not going to change anytime soon. What has changed and will continue to evolve is our empathy and compassion for the creatures that have given up their lives so others can enjoy the food of their culture, community, and that great BBQ your neighbor throws every 4th of July.

Both of my groups, Disco Box and Checkbook, will be performing at DCM 15! I’m extremely excited to bring Checkbook back to DCM and introduce New York to Disco Box. To me Disco Box is pure joy and trust among a group while Checkbook is technically sound with strong performers. Who can ask for more?! I’m in improv heaven!
